Philadelphia’s World Cup Moment

This summer, Philadelphia is officially on the world stage.

As one of the host cities for the FIFA World Cup, our city will welcome visitors from across the globe, showcase some of our most iconic landmarks, and remind everyone why Philly deserves a spot on every traveler’s bucket list.

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a soccer expert. I couldn’t tell you who the favorite is to win it all, and I definitely won’t be breaking down game strategy.

But what I can tell you is where I’d be watching.

Whether you’re lucky enough to have tickets or you’re looking for a great place to catch the action with friends, here are a few Philadelphia spots worth checking out during the tournament.

Bar-Ly: Chinatown’s Game Day Headquarters

If you’ve ever wandered through Chinatown looking for a place to grab a drink, you’ve probably passed Bar-Ly.

Known for its massive beer selection and wall-to-wall TVs, it’s one of the best places in the city to settle in for a match. The energy is always high, the food options nearby are endless, and it’s the perfect excuse to spend an afternoon exploring one of Philadelphia’s most vibrant neighborhoods.

McGillin’s: A Philly Classic

When visitors come to town, I always encourage them to experience places that feel uniquely Philadelphia.

McGillin’s has been serving Philadelphians for generations, and there is something special about watching a global event in a place that’s been part of the city’s history for over a century.

If you’re looking for character, this is your spot.

Val’s Lesbian Bar: Community First

One of the things that makes Philadelphia special is the diversity of spaces and communities that call the city home.

Val’s has quickly become one of Philly’s most exciting new gathering spaces, and I love the idea of celebrating a global event like the World Cup in a place built around connection and community.

Not every watch party needs to happen in a traditional sports bar.

Garage Passyunk: Casual and Fun

Sometimes the best game days are the least complicated ones.

Garage has always been a favorite for casual drinks and neighborhood energy. It’s the type of place where you can stop in for one match and end up staying all afternoon.

No reservations. No pressure. Just good vibes.

Ava Rooftop: Soccer with a Skyline View

For those of us who still appreciate a good cocktail and a nice view, Ava Rooftop offers a completely different World Cup experience.

Instead of a crowded sports bar, picture yourself watching the action while overlooking Center City. It’s a little more elevated, a little more stylish, and perfect if you’re turning game day into a full day out in Philadelphia.

Why This Matters

The World Cup isn’t just about soccer.

It’s about Philadelphia.

For a few weeks, millions of people around the world will see our city featured in broadcasts, social media posts, travel content, and news coverage. Visitors will experience our neighborhoods, our restaurants, our culture, and our unmistakable Philly personality.

As someone who spends a lot of time exploring this city, I couldn’t be more excited.

So whether you’re cheering for your favorite team, meeting friends for a drink, or simply enjoying the energy that comes with hosting one of the world’s biggest sporting events, take a moment to appreciate what a big deal this is for Philadelphia.

The world is watching.

Until Next Sunday,

Morgan
